Parks & Recreation

Slip into something fun.  On the Eastern edge of Haworth Park, on the banks of the Missouri River is the Bellevue Marina.  The 200-slip marina is customized with floating docks in various lengths.  Eight piers make up the marina, with a private gated entrance and private parking. Most of the docks are equipped with water, lights and electrical outlets.

Making Tracks with the Bellevue Loop

Beginning at Haworth Park is the Bellevue Loop of the Keystone Trail.  The Bellevue Loop features 10 miles of scenic, open trail as it works its way south on the Missouri River levee to the mouth of the Papio Creek.

The Birth of Omaha/ Council Bluffs Modern-Day metro area trails can be traced to 1990.  On July 4 of the year, Omaha opened the first phase of the Keystone Trail.  The success of this initial three-mile section  of paved, recreational trail fostered a record of trail construction which remains unmatched in the United States!

Over the next 10 years, more than 67 miles of paved, interconnected trails were constructed!  The Omaha Metro area became a community of trails and greenways.

The Metropolitan Area Trails Network is available to a wide variety of user groups, including walkers, joggers, bicyclists, skaters, cross-country skiers and hikers.  Further the system is accessible to people with disabilities and anyone just wanting to experience nature!

While the Metropolitan Area Trails Network seamlessly connects parks, sports complexes, swimming pools and lakes, recreation is not its sole function.  These trails are an excellent alternative to the use of automobiles and other, more traditional, methods of transportation.  Many individuals use the trail network to get to work.  Schools have developed along trails.  These trails have truly become the transportation method of choice for many residents!

In a complex world, the Metro Area Trails invite all users down a natural path of discovery and encourage them to relax, set their own pace, and enjoy life in “the slow lane!”

Winding through Omaha and beyond, metro-area trails are growing. Sponsored in part by the Papio-Missouri River NRD, the Papio Trails are planned to link the metropolitan area with an intertwining system of trails for hikers, bikers, joggers and walkers.
